Roku Wifi connection trick

Modified on Tue, 23 Jul at 10:35 AM

Fortunately, Roku can automatically connect to a new WiFi network if that WiFi network has the same ID (SSID) and password as the old WiFi network (that your Roku has connected to before).
You can create a new WiFi network with your phone hotspot and then change the wifi. You will need:
  • Your Roku device
  • A cell phone capable of producing a mobile hotspot
  • A secondary device capable of running the Roku remote app
  • The SSID (ID name) and password of the last known internet connection that your Roku had.

You can follow the solution in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyhRNolATzo
Summary from the video:
  1. Power on the Roku device
  2. Create a mobile hotspot (change the ID name and password to the same ones as the old WiFi connection) with the 1st phone.
  3. The Roku will connect to that mobile hotspot because you have just tricked your Roku into thinking it was connected to the last WiFi just by using the same ID and password.
  4. Make sure your phone with the Roku app is connected to the same WiFi as the Roku device. Then you can use the phone remote to go to Settings and change the Wifi as usual.
